The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Pharmacist’s Mate First Class Roland Charles Baudoin (NSN: 6444118), United States Navy, for a voluntary act of heroism in the face of danger and well above normal expectations. Pharmacist’s Mate First Class Baudoin, on the night of 2 July 1944 while in charge of a detachment of personnel in transit, dove into a choppy sea and at risk of his own life rescued a member of his detachment who had fallen into the sea. This man, who was unable to swim, had disappeared beneath the surface of the water. Pharmacist’s Mate First Class Baudoin was able to get the drowning men aboard a nearby small craft and applied the necessary first aid measures. The courage, judgment, and actions, well above the normal call of duty, were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
