The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Pharmacist’s Mate Second Class Milton Cleo Barton (NSN: 5520233), United States Navy, for heroism in the line of his profession as a Pharmacist’s Mate during the aerial bombardment of Roi and Namur Islands, on 12 February 1944. He volunteered to accompany the Battalion Surgeon to answer a call for medical aid from a gun battery. At serious risk to his own life, he crossed an area of about a thousand yards length which was then under actual bombardment, the danger being heightened by our own bombs and other ammunitions which were exploding. Upon arrival at the battery he assisted in treating several badly wounded men, thereby aiding in saving their lives. His heroic performance of duty was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
