The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Paul Bernard Lillis (NSN: 0-147557), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action on 18 January 1944. AT this time he was Commanding Officer of Motor Torpedo Boat THREE HUNDRED TWENTY-NINE (PT-329). While in company with Motor Torpedo Boats 323 and 324, on patrol, he sighted four enemy barges heavily loaded with troops. Despite sharp return fire from small arms he pressed home his attack to the complete destruction of the enemy. His action was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
