The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Guy Jennings Barrett, Jr. (NSN: 0-290458), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Barrett participated in many strikes against enemy airfields and shipping, inflicting damaging blows against the enemy. On 21 October 1944, he participated in an attack on Lahug Airfield on Cebu Island which resulted in the destruction of 27 enemy planes. Several planes were in the process of turning up engines and trying to become airborne. Although the anti-aircraft fire was most intense, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Barrett spotted these operational planes on his initial run and then made skilful and repeated runs which resulted in not one becoming airborne. His cool courageous and skillful flying were instrumental in stopping an obvious intended attack against our newly won position on Leyte. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
