The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Aviation Machinist’s Mate Third Class Frederick Charles Barker, Jr. (NSN: 3826592), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a combat aircrewman in a patrol plane bomber attached to the forces operating out of Guadalcanal during the Battle of the Solomon Islands. He fought his guns with relentless determination and cool courage and contributed to the destruction of two Japanese fighters in the air and three on the water. His determination and indomitable fighting spirit were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service and contributed to the success of this brilliant attack.
