The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Machinist’s Mate Second Class Harlyn G. Bakko (NSN: 5546822), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as gunner of a Navy search bomber off southern Korea on 25 May 1945 and the mong of the Yangtze on 30 May 1945. By his accurate gun fire and skillful performance of duty in the face of intense enemy fire he contributed to the sinking of a large freighter transport, an enemy oiler, and damage to five other enemy vessels. His conduct was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
