With Private First Class Manuel Delgado, Staff Sergeant Cronyn formed a two-man patrol that went out on their own initiative to rescue four airmen they had seen parachute down when a B-17 crashed 1,000 yards behind the enemy lines in front of them. Before they returned to their foxhole, they had captured 22 Germans and killed eight. Meanwhile, the four airmen made their way to safety. Staff Sergeant Cronyn’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
