The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Captain Harold Davies Baker (NSN: 0-57447), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commander of a Transport Division during the amphibious attack on an enemy held island, from 21 July 1944 to 26 July 1944. By his determined leadership, careful planning, and fine technical skill he directed his division in the eminently successful landing of the attack troops and equipment over a difficult coral beach against enemy opposition. His outstanding service and conduct throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. (Captain Baker is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
