    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Edwin Curry Bain (NSN: 0-20432), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States in his respective operations as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. FULTON (AS-11), and as Officer-in-Charge, United States Navy Recuperation and Rest Center, Brisbane Area. By reason of his inspiring example, leadership and untiring effort, he made his ship an outstanding tender, not only for submarines but also for any other allied unit in need of services or assistance. Never neglecting her primary task, his ship cheerfully and willingly performed extensive work for many types of vessels ranging from mail landing craft to cruisers. The fine spirit and excellent moral that exists among the offices and crew of his ship, and the excellent work performed, was the direct result of his splendid leadership. In addition, he was greatly responsible for the establishment of extensive recuperation and recreational facilities in the Brisbane are for personnel from the advanced areas. His high performance of duty in connection with the refit of a large number of submarines, and his generous and outstanding efforts in behalf of other units of the SEVENTH Fleet, contributed materially to the war effort and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
