The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Jacob Olav Bach (NSN: 0-121448), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight on the coast of Shikoku, 17 June 1945, as Patrol Plane Commander of a Navy Patrol Bomber. While on a two-plane search patrol, he entered a harbor and participated in an aggressive coordinated bombing and strafing attack against enemy shipping and shore installations, inflicting serous damage. His skill and disregard for his personal safety were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
