    The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Silver Star (Posthumously) to Photographer’s Mate Second Class Jason Lee Austin, Jr. (NSN: 6336538), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as Photographer’s Mate aboard the U.S.S. CABOT (CVL-28) on 25 November 1944 off the coast of the Philippine Islands. Photographer’s Mate Second Class Austin was observed taking photographs during a violent aerial attack. Unmindful of the danger from strafing and crash-diving enemy aircraft, he courageously continued in his devotion to duty. He courageously gave his life for his country. His courage and disregard for his own safety were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
