    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant George A. August, Jr. (NSN: 0-114330), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a carrier-based night fighter aircraft assigned to night combat air patrol on 31 March 1945. He performed his duties in an outstanding manner and materially contributed to the success of our forces by intercepting and shooting down one enemy twin-engine bomber endeavoring to make a suicide attack. His coolness, skill, and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant George A. August, Jr. (NSN: 0-114330), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as pilot of a carrier-based night fighter plane assigned to strike against enemy air and surface forces in the vicinity of the Japanese home islands and the Ryukyu Islands. On the night of 12 April 1945, while on night combat air patrol, he intercepted and shot down one enemy four-engine seaplane. His skill and courage were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
