The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Chief Electrician’s Mate John J. Arvai (NSN: 2795719), United States Navy, for heroism during action in the performance of his duties in the U.S.S. SALMON (SS-182), during the ELEVENTH War Patrol of that Submarine from 24 September to 3 November 1944. As Chief Electrician’s Mate in Charge, his cool manner, keen understanding of equipment under his charge, and untiring devotion to duty contributed directly to the success of his ship. His conduct throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
