The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Commander Clyde J. V. Ardsall, Jr., United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action while serving as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. ANTHONY (DD-515) in the vicinity of Okinawa from 1 April 1945 to 24 June 1945. Throughout this long and arduous campaign his inspiring leadership and outstanding skill materially contributed to the efficiency with which his ship furnished accurate fire support in covering the landing operations and the advance of our troops ashore. During this period of hazardous duty, sixteen days of which were spent on radar picket station, his ship destroyed eleven enemy planes and the Combat Air Patrol under his control shot down nineteen more. His courage and devotion to duty were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
