The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Theron O. Anglin, United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action as Commanding Officer of the U.S.S. YMS-481, during an engagement with the enemy off Cape Djoeata, Tarakan Island, Borneo. While conducting minesweeping operations on 2 May 1945, gun fire from enemy shore batteries ignited uncontrollable fires throughout his ship. The vessel had to be abandoned and Lieutenant, Junior Grade Anglin, though wounded, remained aboard to insure the safe evacuation of his crew. Before he could debark himself, he was suddenly hurled into the sea by an explosion from within the ship. His outstanding leadership, devotion to duty and courage were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
