The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Electrician’s Mate First Class Robert Leonard Anderson, United States Navy, for heroism in the line of his profession. During the first five War Patrols of the U.S.S. DRUM (SS-228) from 17 April 1942 to 13 May 1943, Electrician’s Mate First Class Anderson performed his duties as a Controllerman in an outstanding manner, materially aiding in maintaining the electrical department in excellent working condition at all times, and rendering great assistance to his commanding Officer in sinking 59,417 tons of enemy shipping, including a seaplane tender, and in damaging 26,300 tons, including an aircraft carrier. His actions and conduct were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
