    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Morris A. Anderson (NSN: 0-278222), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a carrier-based dive bomber, during the attack on a strongly defended enemy harbor in the vicinity of Formosa, 12 October 1944. Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Anderson flew for more than fifty miles under conditions of zero visibility. Despite adverse visibility and intense anti-aircraft fire, he dropped his bomb load on the target, seriously damaging a concrete warehouse and other installations. Braving the fire of shipping in the harbor he repeatedly strafed a merchant ship, contributing to its sinking. Enemy anti-aircraft fire was so intense that two planes received battle damage. His aggressiveness, courage and skill were outstanding and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Morris A. Anderson (NSN: 0-278222), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy during the Second Battle of the Philippine Sea, 24 October 1944. As Pilot of a carrier-based dive bomber, he obtained a possible hit on a rapidly maneuvering Japanese battleship. The action successfully carried out despite intense anti-aircraft fire, helped in removing a serious threat to our ground forces in the Philippine Islands. His outstanding courage and determined skill were at all times inspiring and were keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
