The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Leo Alexander Anderson, Jr. (NSN: 0-228471), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action against the enemy at Cebu City, Philippine Islands, on 24 March 1945. As Boat Captain of Patrol Boat THREE HUNDRED EIGHT (PT-348), Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Anderson led his ship in a daring daylight raid in the enemy harbor. Ignoring enemy fire and the danger from mines, he directed accurate gunfire against two enemy barges and two loaded freight cars which resulted in the sinking or destruction of all targets. His outstanding courage and leadership were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
