(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Captain (Field Artillery) Robert B. Conlon (ASN: 0-335887), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving with Battery D, 93d Armored Field Artillery Battalion (Separate), attached to the 6th Armored Division, in action against enemy forces near Terracina, Italy, on 21 May 1944. While under machine gun fire, Captain Conlon succeeded in cutting wires leading to explosives and saved a vital Italian bridge from being blown up by the Germans head of American troops, thereby enabling the American forces to advance without delay. Captain Conlon’s extraordinary heroism, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty at the cost of his life, exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army.
