The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Marvin G. Gentle, United States Navy, for heroism on 21 June 1967, while serving at U.S. Naval Station, Washington, D.C. After observing a man jump from a bridge into the Anacostia River, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Gentle administered artificial respiration until the man revived, thereby saving the man’s life.
