Henry Miller graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, Class of 1934. During World War II he trained General Jimmy DoolittleÕs “Tokyo Raiders” in carrier take-offs and later accompanied them to within 700 miles of their destination on board USS Hornet in April 1942. He retired as a U.S. Navy Rear Admiral.

(Rear Admiral Miller is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)

    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Lieutenant Commander Henry L. Miller, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States. Pilots who bombed Tokyo in April 1942 were drilled in a special technique by Lieutenant Commander Miller, for this daring and hazardous flight. He fulfilled his important mission with tireless energy and remarkable initiative.
