(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain [then Commander] William Ellis Gentner, Jr., United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as Commander, Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-SEVEN (VB-127), from 14 May to 17 July 1943; and as Operations Officer, Fleet Air Wing SIXTEEN from 7 July 1943 to 18 April 1944.

(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Vice Admiral William Ellis Gentner, Jr., United States Navy, was awarded the Navy Distinguished Service Medal for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Commander of the Unites States Taiwan Defense Command from 6 July 1964 to 17 July 1967. Vice Admiral Gentner, through his outstanding leadership, professional skill and diplomacy, was primarily responsible for improved readiness and defense posture in Taiwan. His singularly distinctive accomplishments and his dedicated contributions in the service of his country reflect the highest credit upon himself and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
