Maddocks, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 28 July to 1 November 1966, as Commander Amphibious Ready Group, U.S. SEVENTH Fleet, while deployed as a unit of the U.S. SEVENTH Fleet Amphibious Force. Captain Maddocks was responsible for planning and executing three amphibious assaults in the Republic of Vietnam. (Captain Maddocks is authorized to wear the Combat “V”.)
