Swanson, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as senior Operations Staff Officer, U.S. Navy, in the Combat Operations Center of Headquarters, U.S. Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, from July 1964 to March 1965.
