(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Captain (CHC) John H. Shilling, United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States while serving as Chaplain to U.S. Naval Amphibious Base, Coronado, California, the many activities based thereon, and the other Amphibious Force units in the San Diego area, from April 1965 to December 1966, for his long hours of ministry among the military families of the Amphibious Force, despite the fact that he was under medical treatment, in constant pain, and forced to use crutches.
