Dare, United States Navy, was awarded a Gold Star in lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from 1 September 1966 to 30 April 1968, as Deputy Director (Operations and Administration), Headquarters, Defense Atomic Support Agency and Chief, Joint Atomic Information Exchange Group.
