The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Distinguished Service Medal to Rear Admiral Jack Pendleton Monroe, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished service in a position of great responsibility to the Government of the United States as Commander U.S. Naval Forces, Philippines/Commander in Chief, Pacific Representative, Philippines, from March 1963 to June 1966. Rear Admiral Monroe effectively promoted inter-country relations and established and nurtured effective channels for liaison, thereby furthering U.S. prestige and goodwill with foreign nations. In addition, he successfully coordinated logistic support to forces engaged in combat in Southeast Asia and increased communications capabilities by formulating and expediting communications improvements in shore stations under his command. As a result, these installations were advanced well ahead of original plans, which enabled timely direction of forces in sensitive politico-military operations.
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit (Army Award) to Rear Admiral Jack Pendleton Monroe, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from September 1957 to August 1961.
