The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting a Third Gold Star in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Commander Doyle Wilmer Lynn, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in leading a flight of four F-8D Crusaders against Vinh Airfield, North Vietnam, on 8 May 1965. Commander Lynn initiated the flak suppression attack, destroying the assigned target. By making multiple runs against anti-aircraft guns and emplacements in conjunction with light bomber attacks, he contributed in large measure to the successful completion of this important mission.
