The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Second Class Clifford K. Anderson (NSN: 3059728), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight during the Second Battle of the Philippine Sea, 24 to 26 October 1944. As radioman of a carrier-based dive bomber, he participated in three attacks which severely crippled an enemy Battleship Task Force and contributed materially to the annihilation of an enemy Carrier Task Force. His intelligent sighting and classifying information resulted in a confirmed hit on a carrier and a positive hit on an enemy battleship. His observations were invaluable for damage assessment. His calmness, skill and courage were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
