The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit with Combat “V” to Captain Charles Carter Anderson (NSN: 20464), United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as the Commanding Officer of a United States ship from June 1944 to March 1945, during the assault on Saipan, Guam, Leyte, Lingayen and Iwo Jima. Demonstrating outstanding leadership and courage, he caused his ship to deliver troops and vital cargo to the beaches without loss of life. His commendable action, achieved in the face of enemy fire and air attack, contributed immeasurably to the success of the assault operation. His outstanding service and conduct throughout were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
