    The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting a Third Gold Star in lieu of a Fourth Award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman First Class Allen B. Anania (NSN: 2240066), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Radioman/Gunner of a heavy bomber engaged in combat search missions in the most forward areas of the South Pacific from 24 January to 19 March 1944. The ability and performance of duty of this enlisted man contributed materially in the securing of much valuable information so necessary to our forces in their sustained drive against the enemy in this vital area. The devotion to duty displayed by him on these many exacting missions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

Anania (NSN: 2240066), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights in the Southwest Pacific Area during the period 27 February 1945 to 2 May 1945. Aviation Radioman First Class Anania completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred. His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the same character.

On 17 March 1945, while serving as Gunner aboard a Navy Liberator, he contributed to the destruction of two Japanese aircraft in flight off the China coast. His actions displayed unusual skill which were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
