The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class James William Amann, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights as an aircrewman in a carrier-based Torpedo Bomber in attacks against enemy installations, positions, and surface units in support of amphibious operations by our own forces in the Pacific. He completed his 16th through 20th flights against the enemy at Iwo Jima between 15 February and 9 March 1945. During all these attacks, he performed his assigned duties in an outstanding manner and his courage was at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
