(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to First Lieutenant Warren Calvin Christianson, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy while serving as an Officer of a B-17 Heavy Bomber of the 347th Bombardment Squadron, 99th Bombardment Group, TWELFTH Air Force, in action against enemy forces during World War II. First Lieutenant Christianson’s bomber was so badly damaged that he instructed his crew to bail out. Then, regaining control of the airplane, he flew it back to England alone. First Lieutenant Christianson’s intrepid actions, personal bravery and zealous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of the military forces of the United States and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
