The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Captain Edward C. Svendsen, United States Navy, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States during the period June 1957 to July 1961, while serving with the Bureau of Ships as Naval Tactical Data System Project Officer. During the period, Captain Svendsen contributed outstanding direction and engineering skill toward the early, successful completion of the Naval Tactical Data System. His contributions to this program have resulted in significant improvements in Fleet anti-air warfare capability.
