The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Radioman Second Class James A. Morrison, United States Navy, for heroic conduct on 19 December 1960 in connection with fire fighting and rescue operations aboard U.S.S. CONSTELLATION (CVA-64) at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. As a member of the first fire fighting party sent to the scene by U.S.S. JOHN HOOD (DD-655), Radioman Second Class Morrison immediately went aboard the burning CONSTELLATION and aided in lowering fire hose to the hangar deck. Although he was not equipped with a breathing apparatus, he entered the burning and smoke-filled hangar deck and aided in locating and removing to safety several injured workmen who were trapped in a compartment. Radioman Second Class Morrison continued his fire fighting and rescue activities for a period of approximately eight hours.
