The President of the United States of America takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (Posthumously) to Lieutenant James Millard Alston (NSN: 0-112962), United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flights against enemy forces while serving with Observation Composite Squadron ONE (VOC-1), within the period 3 January 1945 to 10 March 1945, during the invasion of Luzon, Philippine Islands and during the occupation of Iwo Jima, Empire of Japan. His courage and skill were at all times inspiring and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
