The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant John B. Allyn (NSN: 0-125069), United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED FORTY-TWO (VB-142) in the Pacific area from 6 March to 15 March 1945. Lieutenant Allyn completed twenty flights in a combat area where enemy anti-aircraft fire was expected to be effective or where enemy aircraft patrols usually occurred.
