The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy and Marine Corps Medal to Motor Machinist’s Mate Second Class Raymond George Alexander, United States Navy, for meritorious conduct and extraordinary courage and consideration for the welfare of his shipmates while serving on board a United States Destroyer, when after being severely injured as a result of a shell explosion, he rendered first aid to other wounded and at the risk of further injury to himself refused medical attention until all others had been cared for. As a result of these actions, he suffered further shock, necessitating urgent treatment and removal from the ship by stretcher. His conduct throughout was in accordance with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
