The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Radioman Third Class John Mitchell Alexander, United States Navy, for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight in the combat area of the Western Pacific while serving with Patrol Bombing Squadron TWENTY-ONE (VPB-21), from 5 May 1945 to 27 July 1945. Aviation Radioman Third Class Alexander completed twenty strikes against enemy shipping, airfields and installations, inflicting extensive damage. His skill and courage were at all times inspiring and in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
