The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Aviation Ordnanceman Second Class John Shotwell Albright, United States Navy, for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a turret gunner in a carrier-based torpedo plane assigned to attack the Japanese fleet on 20 June 1944. In spite of intense, heavy and accurate enemy anti-aircraft fire and enemy fighter opposition, he materially assisted in effecting a successful torpedo attack against an enemy aircraft carrier by strafing and damaging it. Two torpedo hits were obtained as a result of this attack. His skill and courage were at all times in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
