The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Corporal Emil Zychowski (ASN: 6128198), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with 1st Platoon, Headquarters Battery, 1st Coast Artillery, at Galeta Island, Fort Randolph, Canal Zone, 9 November 1934. An observation plane piloted by Second Lieutenant Morris Goldberg, Air Corps, and containing one passenger, crashed into a harbor defense searchlight tower, hung to the tower and burst into flames.
