The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Silver Star to Torpedoman’s Mate First Class Donald R. Agenbroad (NSN: 3683640), United States Navy, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action in the performance of his duties as Torpedoman’s Mate in charge of the forward torpedo room in the U.S.S. SNAPPER (SS-185), during the EIGHTH War Patrol of that Submarine from 19 October to 14 December 1943. His skill and inspiring leadership of personnel in maintaining torpedoes and tubes in a constant state of readiness, and his supervision of firing were of valuable assistance in sinking enemy ships totaling approximately 20,000 tons and damaging over 4,000 tons. His calm manner and devotion to duty contributed directly to the success of his vessel. His conduct throughout was an inspiration to all with whom he served and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
