The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Sergeant Dale W. Waldron (ASN: 6639784), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy displayed at East Station, Tientsin, China, 29 July 1937. In conjunction with the movement of the 3d Battalion, 15th Infantry, from Camp Burrows, Chinwangtao, China, to American Barracks, Tientsin, China, a freight car carrying machine guns, ammunition, and other valuable United States Government property arrived in the railroad freight yard at East Station, Tientsin, China, at the time Chinese and Japanese troops were engaged in battle for possession of that station. Sergeant Waldron was in command of a guard posted in the freight car, and for fourteen hours remained at his post of duty assisting in the protection of the Government property in his charge. During this time, all outside communication was cut off and the freight car was repeatedly struck by fragments from exploding shells. By his heroic conduct in the face of danger Sergeant Waldron rendered important aid in saving valuable Government property.
