(Citation Needed) – SYNOPSIS: Lieutenant Commander (MC) Carey M. Smith (NSN: 0-62174), United States Navy, was awarded the Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States as a Prisoner of War at Moji, Japan, and a hospital patient who had survived a ship sinking and subsequent sinking of a prison ship. He cared for his fellow prisoners 30 January to 26 February 1945.
