Chief Boatswain’s Mate Philip Earl Saunders (Sanders) (NSN: 3801732), United States Navy, was captured by the Japanese when his Gun Boat YP-16 was seized during the invasion of Guam on 8 – 9 December 1941, and was held as a Prisoner of War until returned to U.S. Military control after the end of hostilities in August 1945.
