Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Perabo made three attacks before the submarine submerged and then, after it had re-surfaced, he executed two more attacks, which damaged the U-boat’s conning tower and weather decks. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.
