The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private First Class Edwin C. Sherer (ASN: 6348284), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with Company C, 7th Infantry Regiment, on the evening of 27 December 1927. While driving on the Pacific Highway near the southern outskirts of Milwaukee, Oregon, the car ahead of him skidded on the icy pavement, left the pavement, and rolled down an embankment into a lake. Without hesitation, Private Sherer ran down the embankment, plunged into the icy waters, succeeded in forcing an entry into the car, and rescued the three passengers.
