The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Olin B. Routh (ASN: 6270571), United States Army, for heroism at the risk of life not involving conflict with an armed enemy while serving with the 59th Ordnance Company, in rescuing a soldier from drowning in West Lake, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, 4 July 1937. While swimming about 100 yards from the pier a soldier sank in several feet of murky water and lay unconscious on the bottom of the lake. Noticing that he had disappeared, Private Routh dived repeatedly to locate the body and, on his fourth attempt, brought the unconscious soldier to the surface and assisted in resuscitating him.
