The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, takes pleasure in presenting the Soldier’s Medal to Private Orin W. Rogers (ASN: 6700696), United States Army, for heroism, not involving actual conflict with an enemy, displayed while serving with Headquarters and Headquarters Battery and Combat Train, 2d Battalion, 7th Field Artillery, on 17 November 1929 at Madison Barracks, New York. Upon noticing a general prisoner attempting to escape, Private Rogers and others went in pursuit. When the prisoner had been surrounded, Private Rogers, although unarmed, advanced, toward him and when the prisoner drew an Army pistol and pointed it directly at Private Rogers, he nevertheless continued to advance, in spite of the weapon, and succeeded in capturing the prisoner.
