Long (NSN: 8265845), United States Navy, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Air Bomber of a Navy Patrol Bomber in Patrol Bombing Squadron ONE HUNDRED TWENTY-ONE (VPB-121), over Wake and Ponape Islands, Iwo Jima, and Chichi Jima, from 7 March 1945 to 11 August 1945.
